Across the border from Copacabana, on the shore of Lake Titicaca sits the pretty little town of Puno, a great place to see the famous Floating Islands, or carry on to Cuzco. The bus from Copacabana to Puno is a nice day trip.

The border crossing is relatively quick and straight forward. We filled out a form they gave us on the bus and removed all our items from the bus. We then went through the Bolivian Immigration to exit the country, then walked to the Peruvian Immigration and got the entrance stamp there. I think in total it might have taken about 30 mins.

Once in Peru we were told we had to wear our seat-belts. There were also a few checkpoints where some officers came on board and checked for anything suspicious. Eventually we arrived at the little town of Puno.
The buses come and go from the main Plaza. From there it’s a short walk to the lake shore and to most hostels.
There are many tour operators in Copacabana where you can book a bus to Puno or on to La Paz (see La Paz – Copacabana).
It is fairly central and near the lake. You can get taxis or moto-taxis around the town.
