Sucre to Oruro
Oruro is most famous for its Carnival but served us as a gateway to Chile. The bus from Sucre to Oruro follows the same route as the bus to La Paz and passes Potosi.
Most buses leave from Sucre in the evening around 7:30 – 8:30 pm. The trip to Oruro takes about 8 hours so you will arrive early in the morning around 4 am.
Oruro is high altitude and so can be very cold especially early in the morning. There are some places inside and outside of the terminal to get a bite to eat.

On the return trip most buses start from La Paz around 8 pm so you won’t get on the bus until around midnight. I think there are a few buses that go earlier or maybe just as far as Potosi.
The cost of the bus from Sucre to Oruro each way will be around 100 Bs.
Sucre Bus Terminal
The bus terminal is located about 20 mins from the centre or the city. Most taxis will take you to and from the terminal for 5 Bs per person sometimes a little more. You can also take small “micro” buses which will take you there for just 1.50 Bs.
To get from the terminal into the city centre you need to cross the street from the terminal and take the H, A or 3 micro from there.
To get to the terminal you can get the number H, A or 3 micro from Calle Junin in the centre of the city to the terminal. You can ask the driver, “Va a la terminal?”, if you are unsure.
Bear in mind that lots of buses leave around 6 – 8 pm so traffic is slow getting to the terminal. If you are in a rush you should take a taxi but if you have time then allow 30 mins to arrive by micro.
Oruro Bus Terminal
We actually didn’t spend any time in Oruro. We took a bus to Iquique (see Oruro – Iquique) the day we arrived so I can’t tell you how to get to the terminal but of course there are taxis and it is on a busy main road so I think there are minivans to the centre too.
The terminal has plenty of seating and a place to charge cell phones.
